A Norwich Suburb
Transforming a Period Property
A Kitchen That Found Its Flow
Tucked within a vibrant Norwich home, this kitchen is the result of a truly collaborative journey – one that began not with cabinetry, but with foundations. Brought in at the early stages of building work, we had the rare opportunity to help shape the extension itself. Working alongside the client’s builder, we were able to guide essential services like plumbing and electrics to support the design from the inside out – ensuring every detail felt seamless from day one.
What began as a small, mustard-yellow kitchen with limited functionality and a restricted view has since opened into a beautifully expansive space – one that’s now full of light, character and soul. Slim decorative beams draw the eye through the new extension, right out to a lushly landscaped garden, viewed through striking bifold doors. The kitchen doesn’t just serve the space – it celebrates it.
Where Colour Leads, Character Follows
The client’s dark green display cabinet was the spark – a statement piece they loved, but one that previously felt disconnected from the rest of the room. Our design sought to give it context and belonging.
From there, we created a palette that embraced depth and warmth: a wall run of deep mineral green, a rust red island bringing balance and energy, and an olive-toned mantel the clients lovingly painted, gracefully linking the kitchen tones to the adjoining living area.
Colour played a leading role, but texture was never far behind. The matte cabinetry finish feels quietly sophisticated, while a mirrored splashback reflects natural light and movement – expanding the room both visually and emotionally. Every surface, every finish was chosen to build a layered palette that felt both bold and harmonious.
Sleek Meets Soulful
This space is proof that sleek doesn’t have to mean soulless. The cabinetry is clean-lined and functional, yet the character of the home has only grown stronger. Vintage finds, personal artwork and colourful details – previously lost in the old layout – now feel elevated and intentional. The result is a kitchen that feels effortlessly contemporary, but entirely personal.
This kitchen isn’t just a place to cook – it’s a space to live in. To move through. To admire. And to linger in with a morning coffee or as the evening light fades.
From the home owner:
“We can highly recommend Gerald Giles who provided our Nobilia kitchen.
Phil took us through from requirements, to final design and was able to accommodate all the requirements that we had, which took a number of iterations. The Nobilia range is extensive with some great design touches that we could not find in other kitchens. Phil was able to provide example doors for us to take back to our kitchen to see how the matches would work, and Nobilia had colours available that we could not find elsewhere.
The render images of the kitchen were very high quality and enabled us to fully visualise how the final design would appear. We would have no hesitation in recommending Gerald Giles Kitchens and Phil.” – Mr and Mrs V.
